Group indirect costs into as many named pools as your business has: workshop rent and power in one, machine time in another, admin and software in a third.

Each pool carries its own allocation units, the sellable units it serves over the period. The per-unit share is the pool total divided by those units.

Each cost line has a rate basis: fixed for the period, like rent, or per unit of actual usage against a unit of measure you choose, such as a machine hour or a unit shipped.

Pools apply only to the products assigned to them, so a product never absorbs cost it did not consume.

Over-absorption is flagged when assigned usable units exceed the pool's allocation units, which would otherwise overstate every unit cost.
